Academy Arts NIGHT
Every year, students in all visual art classes at the STEM Academy create an exhibit of their work and celebrate with an evening reception, Academy Arts Night. For Senior IB Visual Art students, this is the culminating experience of their two year International Baccalaureate course. The exhibition itself is an IB Internal Assessment, which counts as 40% of their final IB course score.
Local artists, art educators and professionals have volunteered their time to judge the art show each year. They typically award ribbons for overall excellence for Senior Exhibitions in first, second, third places and honorable mentions. They also award ribbons of achievement to individual artworks that demonstrate outstanding artistic achievement in technique and originality of ideas.
Past judges include Samantha McCafferty, Graphic Designer, Emilee Hembury, Creative Director at Paragon Design, Becky Lister, Visual Art Teacher at Downingtown East High School, Julie Valenti, Assistant Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences and Art History Professor at LaSalle University and Carl Long, retired Art Educator and Director of the Minnesota Arts Council.
